Summer is undoubtedly the trendiest season, featuring everything from bloomer shorts to cargo denim pants and heart-shaped sunglasses. But which summer trends will still be popular when you go on your next vacation and which ones will stay in your summer capsule wardrobe for years to come? We spoke with buyers and industry professionals at some of the most well-known businesses to learn more about the finest summer essentials to stock up on.
This trend cycle is still being driven by the party girl look. The desire to dress to the nines is back in full swing thanks to summer activities, according to Olivela Chief Merchant Maria Milano. “The time has come to emphasise your partywear aesthetic even more. We are, after all, making up for lost time.” You may still participate in the fun using sequins and glossy materials if party dresses and micro short skirts aren’t your thing. “According to Arielle Siboni, director of ready-to-wear fashion at Bloomingdale’s, “high-shine elements have become a standard for a fun upgrade to summer classics.” “Crystal detailing, lurex injections, and sequins are the ideal ways to add excitement to your clothing, whether you’re going to a wedding or visiting the beach.”

Make crochet or raffia your choice if you want to spend money on new textures this season. Libby Page, senior market editor at Net-A-Porter, thinks that knit dresses and clashing prints are simple ways to reinterpret the trend. “They are the star players this summer,” she adds. In the meantime, there’s no such thing as too much when it comes to bathing suits: “This summer, it’s all about sexy and fun styles in bright colours, sequins, and cut-outs.” Also making a comeback on the fashion scene are upside-down swimsuits.
Bandanas, striking shoes, and bags are the must-haves when it comes to accessories. A luxurious pair of platform heels is the ideal way to stand out this summer, according to Jodi Kahn, vice president of luxury fashion at Neiman Marcus. “An off-duty dress may be instantly become glam with intricate patterns and brightly coloured shoes.” Liane Wiggins, head of womenswear at MatchesFashion, recommends a purse with crystal embellishments: As our customers look for unique pieces to wear to all of their summer occasions and parties, we expect this trend to continue. They have been a big hit this season.
